Air out the house and feed the bed!

Updated: Dec 29, 2023

Hello, Fall! Wonderful cool days and cozy nights, the perfect time to allow the benefits of fresh crisp air to circulate throughout our home.

We start spending more time indoors, cooking and sleeping underneath heavier covers and if you are a southern girl like me, you are going to sleep underneath a good ole quilt! With this comes trapped smells in your home and added sweat to your bed, even if you kick that one leg out from under the covers to cool off, it's time to open up those windows and strip those bed to allow the crisp cool air to refresh your home.

During this season, we are beginning to turn on our heaters and using our fireplaces to chase away the chills but at the same time we are drying out the air in our homes. By opening up our windows for just a few minutes each day, we can help to circulate fresh air throughout our home improving the air quality as well as regulating our home's humidity levels. Not only does this freshens the home but aids in preventing respiratory issues, dry skin, and reduces mold and mildew growth.

Now to the sexy part. Let's go to the bedroom, strip down the bed to the bare mattress and in my Bob Marley voice, "open up your window curtains."

Take baking soda and generously sprinkle onto the mattress. This natural deodorizer will absorb lingering smells and moisture in the mattress. Allow the baking soda to sit for one to two hours before vacuuming it up using the vacuum's hose attachment. This not only freshens the mattress but helps extend the life of the mattress as well.

After you have deodorized your mattress, use this wonderful homemade sheet mist for added touch. This natural sheet mist promotes relaxation and a peaceful sleep. The lavender essential oil has calming properties, and the scent of rosemary reduces stress.
